Singer Preston Brust acknowledges 2017 has been the year of his country band, LOCASH.
After pushing LOCASH since 2004, Brust and fellow singer Chris Lucas received their first CMA Awards nomination (Vocal Duo of the Year) as well as nods at the ACM Awards (New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year) and CMT Awards (Duo Video of the Year). With a strong reception by Arizona radio programmers and fans, LOCASH will hit the stage for Cactus Bowl Live! at 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, at the Phoenix Convention Center’s South Ballroom.
“This is going to be a party,” says Brust, during a Christmas shopping trip at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. “We’re flying out that morning and it is the day after Christmas. What a better way to party.
“We’re going to bring the whole band, plugging everything in. Fans can expect the unexpected. We have a setlist because we have light guys and sound guys, but it’s easy for us to throw in different songs or a cover song.”
Prince’s “Purple Rain,” “Tush” by ZZ Top and “Closer” by the Chainsmokers are among their favorite covers.
One thing’s for sure, LOCASH will include its gold-certified hit “I Love This Life,” its No. 1 song “I Know Somebody” and the romantic anthem “Ring on Every Finger” in the set. Brust and Lucas have also shared success beyond LOCASH. They broke into music by writing songs for others; their credits include Keith Urban’s 2011 single “You Gonna Fly,” and Tim McGraw’s 2012 song “Truck Yeah.”
“We just try to write the best songs we can,” Brust says. “Sometimes you think you’re writing a song for yourself, but it may touch someone else’s heart more than your own. We’ve been blessed to have a lot of success.”
Brust hopes that continues in 2018, when at the stroke of midnight January 1, LOCASH will release its song, “Don’t Get Better Than That.”
“It’s going to go to radio in late January, and then hopefully, the sky’s the limit.”
