Everyone knows Charlie Brown, his lovable beagle Snoopy, and their friends… The Peanuts. The television specials are staples of the holiday season, from Halloween to Christmas. Peanuts, the syndicated daily comic strip ran from October 2, 1950, to February 13, 2000. Creator Charles M. Schulz created nearly 18,000 strips, which in its heyday ran in over 2,600 newspapers, with a readership of more than 350 million. While Schulz passed away years ago, his iconic characters live on to this day.
Keeping the Peanuts spirit alive and introducing them to new generations are the Cedar Fair Theme Parks. Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California added its widely popular Camp Snoopy-themed area in 1983. After the Knott family sold the park to Cedar Fair, the area theme and characters were adopted at all of the company’s locations. The Peanuts are as much a part of Knott’s, as is the iconic boysenberry.
This February, Knott’s Berry Farm honors the Peanuts with a new celebration that will feature comic strip-inspired photo ops, live shows and entertainment, as well as Peanuts décor throughout the park. The event invites visitors to step inside the pages of a Schulz comic strip.
In the historic Bird Cage Theatre, guests can attend classes and learn how to draw their favorite character. Afterward, with creation in hand, stay for a screening of a classic cartoon. All new shows take place around the park, with Franklin and Linus hosting a cowboy jamboree in Calico Park, Lucy and Charlie Brown will be on stage in Camp Snoopy. Pig Pen makes his Knott’s debut, as he will be hosting meet-ups with live animals in the Livery Stable. The colorful dancing of Mexico will be hosted by Lucy and Sally, in Fiesta Village.
Sally and Schroeder present a retrospect of music in the center of the park, and at night Woodstock hosts a lively music festival. The entire Peanuts gang will join indie band Jelly of the Month Club for a high-energy rock concert.
Take a break of all of the music and dancing, while hoping aboard the Grand Sierra Scenic Railroad for a trip to Beagle Bonanza. This special ride overlay takes you around the lake, and under some of Knott’s Berry Farm’s largest roller coasters.
The Knott’s PEANUTS Celebration, a new Seasons of Fun event, takes place on weekends through February 25, plus Presidents Day, February 19.
