Getting familiar with your local craft breweries
HUSS BREWING CO.
The brainchild of husband and wife team Jeff and Leah Huss, Huss Brewing Co. opened its doors in August 2013 in the spot that once housed Rio Salado Brewing Co. Jeff is the beer man as a Siebel Insti- tute graduate and the former Head Brewer for BJ’s Brewery in Chandler. Leah is the culinary master as a graduate of Scottsdale Culinary Institute and managing partner at Papago Brewing Co. in Scottsdale.
The taproom at Huss is a warm cozy space with mismatched tables and chairs and 20 taps. They currently have seven of their own beers on tap, while the other taps feature some of the best beers avail- able in Arizona, plus cider and wine. Huss Brewing will can their beers, including seasonals, come early 2015.
The focus of the Huss portfolio is well-made American craft ales and lagers with a touch of German influence. Part of Jeff’s brewing education took place at the Doemens Academy in Munich, which had an impact on his choice of beers. They are currently producing an Ameri- can Pale Ale, an American India Pale Ale, a German-style Kölsch, a German-style Schwartz and a spiced porter.

SANTAN BREWING COMPANY
Under the leadership of founder and brewmaster, Anthony Canecchia, SanTan has established a strong reputation as one of Arizona’s favorite craft breweries. Open since 2007, SanTan features a friendly neighborhood brewpub in Downtown Chandler, which has quickly become one of the top local food and beer destinations in the Phoenix Metro area.
All SanTan Brewing Company craft beers are Southwestern Style Ales. The brews are fermented to completion and carbonated higher than traditional Amer- ican beers for a more effervescent, crisp and refreshing hand-crafted beer—per- fect for quenching your thirst in the hot Arizona sun.
In 2009, SanTan Brewing began distributing their Southwestern Style Ales throughout the state of Arizona, operating with a mission to pair craft beer with craft food that would inspire great conversation and good times. 2014 marks the begin- ning of taking this journey throughout the Southwest and California.
