As a bartender at Diego Pops in Old Town Scottsdale, Kimber Barton has a hard time explaining why she loves working there, but only because there are too many reasons.
“It’s either because the food and drinks are just so, so good or because our team is really supportive and great to work with,” she told us when we stopped in for a cocktail. Keep reading to see her answers to some of our other favorite questions.
The Entertainer!: Tell me about the oddest drink request you’ve gotten.
Barton: I’ll never forget this. This guy ordered a shot and wanted vodka, black pepper, Tabasco and mayonnaise in it. I thought it was a joke and he was going to pass it on to a friend, but he actually drank it.
What is your number one pet peeve when working?
Definitely unfriendly people. When I say, “Hi! How are you doing?” The answer is not, “Coors Light.”
What is your go-to drink when you’re at a bar other than you own?
A Moscow mule. I think it’s pretty safe wherever you go. Plus they are really refreshing, especially when you live in Phoenix, and a lot of place will have their own spin on it so it’s fun to try variations.
What does ordering a whiskey sour say about a person?
It kind of reminds me of movies or what the awkward coworker would order when things start getting weird at an office Christmas party.
What do you like about this drink, the watermelon mint margarita?
I think it’s a drink that looks nice and the mint isn’t overpowering, which I like a lot.
