THIS MONTH’S HIKE:
King Canyon Trail in Saguaro National Park (West) Difficulty rating: Moderate 6.5 miles round trip
Tucson’s Saguaro National Park is on the west side of T-town, stretching from King Canyon Trail up to the summit of Wassan Peak. This trek is one of the best in the Tucson Mountains. It offers unforgettable 360 degree desert and city views and is a great workout. I highly recommend this trek for anyone who wants to really experience the essence of the desert and appreciate this place we call home. This entire trail is comprised of rocky switchbacks that get increasingly steeper as you hike to the top. With staggeringly tall saguaros, the views here cannot be matched by any other in the Tucson Mountains. King Canyon is usually packed with outdoor enthusiasts during the fall, winter and spring seasons because the weather is perfect for desert trekking. This trail takes anywhere from three to five hours out-and-back with almost 2,000 feet of elevation gain. With the busy holiday season drawing closer, it is more important than ever to get close to nature to relax and rejuvenate. Get out and take a trek this fall season!
